Nominate a French Book Today!

Preparations have begun for the FSLGRA this fall! Here's the form where you can nominate your latest favourite title, whether it's a picture book, a Graphic Novel or a (short!) novel by Monday May 6, 2024. 

Ideal selections are:

  • recently published 
  • not already used as an #FSLGRA selection
  • available to purchase
  • engaging 
  • responsive to diverse cultures, identities, and issues
  • preferably not translated or popular as an English translation
  • accessible to French as an additional language students


We invite you to browse the past winners in the Resources/Ressources tab at the top of the site. Hot tip! That's also where you'll find past resources that you can use with your students any time you like. The FSL Global Read Aloud is a free, non-commercial, collaborative project, run with the blessing of the Global Read Aloud creator since 2018.

Everyone is welcome to fill out their best finds for consideration as we make our shortlist, even if the book you're nominating is at a different level of the FSLGRA than you would participate in with your own class. It helps us to hear diverse, current suggestions from a variety of French educators, so we can offer the best books and a great collaborative reading experience to our students!

Voici notre calendrier de lecture pour cet automne. Vous pouvez aussi commencer à voir et à ajouter des ressources à notre document sur les ressources collaboratives . Cette année, il y aura un changement important à remarquer. L'inscription est également ouverte, mais avec un changement cette année. Les années précédentes, lorsque vous vous inscriviez, vous indiquiez si vous souhaitiez que vos informations soient partagées avec d'autres participants afin que vous puissiez collaborer. Cette année, lorsque vous vous inscrivez, vous nous autorisez à partager les informations que vous fournissez avec toutes les autres personnes qui s'inscrivent afin de faciliter la collaboration. What is the FSLGRA? (French as a Second Language Global Read Aloud)

Welcome to the site for the FSL Global Read Aloud! We started the #FSLGRA project just before the 2018-2019 school year. Inspired by the collaborative nature, the meaningful connections to and within the real world, and the deep learning experience offered by the annual endeavour created, owned and maintained by  Pernille Ripp   in the United States for several years now (the  Global Read Aloud aka le GRA ), dedicated and risk-taking FSL teachers wanted to offer a similar literary experience for our young language learners. So we apprached Ms Ripp with our idea and were granted permission to try to organise something similar, specifically with second language French audiences in mind. She gave us her blessing (in accordance with certain conditions that we have followed and will continue to respect). Here's how it happened ...
