Call for Nominations: FSL Global Read Aloud 2026 - Share Your Best French Classroom Books!

We, the organizers of the French as a Second Language Global Read Aloud (FSLGRA), are so excited to begin planning for the 2026 edition - and we need your expertise! 📣

Have you discovered an engaging French book for your FSL classroom this year? 

Whether you actually taught it, your students discovered it and enjoyed it, or you just came across it in a book store or a publisher's booth doesn't matter! No matter whether you're teaching Core French/FSL, Extended French, or French Immersion, regardless of if it's in a public or a private school, we’re looking for your submissions of high-interest, accessible texts that support and develop today’s diverse FSL learners.

Nominate a book today using the the form below! This is a chance to contribute to one of the most innovative French classroom literacy initiatives and help shape authentic oral reading experiences for students across Canada and beyond this coming October-November. Further opportunities for collaboration and involvement are available in the summer and fall as well, as #FSLGRA26 planning and execution progresses.



What We’re Looking For:

We welcome recommendations across a wide range of French reading levels—from beginner FSL students to advanced Immersion learners. 

Ideal nominations should be:

  • Recently published and readily available for purchase (i.e., not out of print)
  • Accessible for French as a Second Language (FSL) learners, with support
  • Not previously featured in the FSL Global Read Aloud
  • Culturally responsive and inclusive, reflecting diverse identities and perspectives
  • Originally written in French (not translations from English, when possible)
  • Highly engaging for today’s students (think graphic novels, beautiful and meaningful picture books, short novels, and more!)

By submitting a title for consideration, you’re helping build a curated collection of high-quality French literacy resources that promote:

  • Student engagement in the French classroom
  • Linguistic confidence and security
  • Representation and inclusion in FSL learning
  • Meaningful global connections through shared reading experiences

Deadline ⏰ 

Nomination submissions are due by Sunday, April 26, 2026 (evening). 
Next we release a short list to be voted upon by all interested educators, to select the final choices to use in the autumn.

What is the FSLGRA? (French as a Second Language Global Read Aloud)

Welcome to the site for the FSL Global Read Aloud! We started the #FSLGRA project just before the 2018-2019 school year. Inspired by the collaborative nature, the meaningful connections to and within the real world, and the deep learning experience offered by the annual endeavour created, owned and maintained by  Pernille Ripp   in the United States for several years now (the  Global Read Aloud aka le GRA ), dedicated and risk-taking FSL teachers wanted to offer a similar literary experience for our young language learners. So we apprached Ms Ripp with our idea and were granted permission to try to organise something similar, specifically with second language French audiences in mind. Are you ready to start reading? We start on a short week due to a holiday, so if you get a little bit behind at any point, that's totally okay! If you and your class choose to read ahead, just keep in mind - no spoilers please in what you opt to share on social media or when collaborating with other classes.  If you haven't already signed up , please take a minute to do that now.  For those who did sign up and wanted to share their contact information with other teachers taking on the same book(s), please look for an email from me ("madameaiello") later this weekend.
