One Month to go!
The countdown is on! In exactly one month the third annual French as a Second Language Global Read Aloud begins!
We hope you are as excited about this as we are!
This year probably looks different for many of us. Our September start-ups probably weren't as smooth as they normally are... It certainly wasn't for me here in Ontario. Two weeks into the year and I now have a new assignment: teaching Core French partially online and partially in-person. I hope that you are able to find ways to participate this year whatever your current situation is. Remember that you can connect with other educators in our facebook group, as well as through the social media hashtags. More about that below!
Our reading period for all of the levels starts October 19, 2020 and goes until November 27, 2020. This is when the most people participate and when you will be able to make the most connections with other schools. However, start reading when it suits you and your class, and feel free to establish your own personal connections among teaching colleagues if the official time frame does not work for you. Our resource sharing document remains open - both to access and to contribute to - after the official reading period. If you registered and allowed us to share your contact information, you will have received an email with the contact information of other teachers doing the same level. Reach out and see if anyone is going to read at the same time as you.
If you are reading Cycle Primaire or Cycle Moyen books, remember it is not mandatory to read all of the books. Maybe pick one for this year.
Registration
You can still register! It's not required to participate, but it allows us to remind you and share new information for the Read Aloud. Registration will close October 11 so that I have time to send out final information to everyone who has registered.
Resources
The resource document is live. Look for it in the resource tab linked at the top of the site (along with ideas and resources from prior years). Please remember to share only free, non-commercial resources that respect copyright laws. Your contributions to this document are greatly appreciated by all participants and allow for richer connections as you read with your students.
If you are teaching online this year, please make sure to review your country's copyright laws in respect to read alouds on an online platform. In the spring, many companies allowed teachers to record and post read alouds to online platforms however most have revoked that permission this fall unless you/school board pay the licencing fees. Your country may allow live performances of copyrighted work but please verify this with the copyright act.
Hashtags
Finally remember to tweet and tag what you are doing on social media. #fslgra, #fslgraprimaire, #fslgramoyen, #fslgraint and #fslgrasec are the hashtags we use on both instagram and twitter. We also continue to accept members to our Facebook group.
We are looking forward to a great read aloud and can't wait to see what you do!
